Trader Joe’s recently released a line of limited edition mini canvas tote bags, and people went wild over them. They flew off shelves almost as quickly as they were stocked. The bags retailed for $2.99 but were seen being resold on eBay for $500.
If you were desperate to get your hands on them but weren’t able to and don’t feel like getting into an online bidding war, don’t worry. Co-hosts Tara Miller and Matt Sloan of the podcast Inside Trader Joe’s just announced that they’re coming back by the end of the summer, probably around late August to early September.
Even the people at Trader Joe’s were caught off guard. “What is up with these tote bags? I get the excitement. I’m still a little perplexed about how quickly that excitement went to frenzy,” Miller said.
They knew people would love them but had no idea they’d become this popular. “We thought we bought enough of these mini canvas totes to last for several weeks, maybe a whole month. We had no inkling that they would be this exciting, this quickly for so many customers. We had actually hundreds of thousands of bags come in and go out within a week,” Sloan said.
