Candle Burning 101

Here are a few easy steps to make sure you’re getting the most out of your favorite candle. Follow them to get the best and safest burn!

Trim that wick: Before lighting, trim the wick to ¼ inch for a clean, safe burn and increased candle lifespan
Let it burn: Allow the wax to melt to the edges of the jar every burn to prevent tunneling – especially important on the first burn!
Safety first: Never leave a lit candle unattended and don’t burn for more than 4 hours at a time. To protect the surface below from heat, place your candle on the lid.
Know when to stop: Don’t burn your candle if only ¼ inch of wax remains. Lighting candle without enough wax can overheat the jar.

Freeze it: Pop the candle in the freezer overnight to solidify the wax.
Break the wax: Using a blunt but sturdy object – such as a fork or butter knife – break any leftover wax apart into smaller bits and remove wax from the candle vessel.
Hand wash your vessel: Clean the inside of your jar, use a cloth to wipe the insides of the jar clean, hand wash, rinse, and dry.
Repurpose it: Repurpose your vessel as a planter, container, or catchall. If you’re reusing your candle jar as a planter, add small rocks for drainage to the bottom before adding soil.
